Officers from the New Rochelle Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Main Street and Echo Avenue shortly after 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, where there was a report of a stabbing.
A New Rochelle Police Department spokesperson said that upon arrival, officers found a 38-year-old Hispanic man who was conscious and on the sidewalk in “extreme pain.”
Police said that the man had been stabbed in the back and sustained serious injuries. The knife was found lodged in his back when officers arrived. The New Rochelle resident was transported by an ambulance to a hospital for treatment on his injuries.
New Rochelle Police detectives investigating the stabbing identified a suspect, 44-year-old Autumn Graham, who was located at approximately 3:30 p.m. later that day near the Library Green in the city and arrested. Police said that Graham is homeless, and lives in a New Rochelle shelter.
According to police, it does not appear that Graham knew her victim, and the attack appears to be unprovoked and random.
Graham was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. She is scheduled to be arraigned in New Rochelle City Court on Monday, Aug. 5.
